The Battle of A.I. and Creativity
The Battle of A.I. and Creativity
As the trends of Artificial Intelligence usage continue to rise, there is a continued pattern to the specific nuances in which AI operates. AI registers the tone in which many people write in order to strengthen its own intelligence by using pattern recognition. For those not familiar with pattern recognition, it is extremely prevalent in all technologies that utilize AI. "Pattern recognition can be seen in tasks such as character recognition, image processing, and speech recognition, where systems analyze data to group or classify it into meaningful categories." (EBSO).
While this level of pattern recognition is useful for companies that need to analyze trends, a concern is that as more people begin to utilize AI for varying reasons (curiosity, coursework, etc.) the more AI will dilute the quality of work that is received in the real world. For those who have been on social media, it is likely that you have seen videos that utilize AI for narration. Now, if you watch multiple videos, you will find that the same exact language pattern, tone of voice, and style are utilized for multiple videos. This does not just exist for videos, but it also exists in regards to graphic posters, songs, and many websites that use AI to generate their content.
AI's pattern recognition has been useful for many different labor fields- accountants, data entry, data analyst, sports analytics, etc.- but it comes at the cost of laying off employees, pollution, and creativity. With the trend of AI making every single thing seem the exact same, how long until our architecture and our infrastructure looks exactly the same? How long until every single house on your street looks identical to the next one? You can make a difference. By voting against data centers in your area, you can make a difference to help preserve the creative world, jobs, and fight against pollution.
