Movies Like Wall-E Teaching Us About AI And Our Future
You wake up tomorrow, and you have a robot to do everything for you. It makes you breakfast. It cleans your house. It drives you places. You can ask it any question.
It can even tell you what to watch! Sounds pretty great right? It kind of is. While WALL-E takes you on a humorous journey, it also provides us with some insight to a world where we let technology consume our lives.
WALL-E was made in 2008, but there are some lessons from the movie that are even more applicable today. WALL-E: What Does the Movie Have to Do With Artificial Intelligence
When Earth is too full of trash, humans are forced to live on a gigantic spaceship called the Axiom.
While living on the Axiom, everyone has robots wait on them hand and foot. People spend their days sitting in swivel chairs. Staring at screens.
Robots spoon-feed them meals and allow them to be completely helpless. Even though the humans in WALL-E have it pretty good, they have become overly dependent on technology.
This is something we need to understand when we start talking about AI. Artificial Intelligence, or AI, can be described as technology that uses data to perform tasks or assist with decision making.
There are already many things AI can do today. It can be used for transportation, education, health care, and even your job.
NASA uses AI to study our world in space, read satellite images, and assist with preparing for missions.
Artificial intelligence is not something from a futuristic movie. AI exists today.
How Will AI Benefit Our Lives? AI has many benefits. One of those benefits include being able to complete tasks that will free up time for people.
WALL-E showed us what can happen when we let technology do everything for us. What Jobs Could AI Replace?
AI has the ability to replace some of the tasks we do at our job. Some people may have to learn how to work with AI.
Instead of asking yourself, “Will AI take my job?” You should maybe be asking, “How can I adapt to work with AI?”
Whoever can figure out how to work alongside AI will have the upper hand. Robots Will Never replace everything that makes us Human There is one more thing WALL-E teaches us.
Robots will never be able to replace everything that makes us human. Yes, technology will be able to take over a lot of tasks that we currently do.
But there will always be a need for people to perform certain jobs. The Human Element Why Will Robots never replace humans?
For me, the biggest thing I learned from WALL-E is that we as humans need to stop letting technology take over what makes us human.
Technology is merely a tool. We can choose to use that tool however we wish.
