What Can We Do To Stop School Shootings?

Nowadays, there are more and more school shootings happen over the U.S. which is becoming a biggest concerns for people to send their kids to school. School is supposed to be a safe place for kids to grow and learn without worrying about anything. Now, they have to look over their shoulders because they know things can happen to them.  Especially for those kids that have to go to school where the shooting took place, it is even harder and scarier for them to go back there and remember the tragic incident that took their friends’ lives away from them.

As students returned to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School today for the first time after the mass school students, they all had mix feelings about what had happened (according to ABC News). Well, they should be. They were too young to witness and become victims of that tragic event. But these young and bright kids are so brave that they are willing to face the problem and fix it. So, how about us – grown-up parents and adults? What can we do to stop school shooting?

First, we need to look at the way that we educate and raise our children. Is there anything that we’re doing wrong? If yes, fix it as soon as possible. Moreover, always let our kids know that we love them and we will be there with them no matter what happens. They need to know that they can depends and feel comfortable coming to us whenever they have problems. Discuss how to fix their problem with them and encourage them to always do right things. Second, we need to work with government to increase security at school or any public spaces. Increasing more police patrol around school campus will make the kids feel more at ease. We can also do neighborhood watch to make sure it’s safe. Also, we can install any gun, knifes, or metal weapons detector at around school and other public place to make sure that no one carries them around. Last, we need to have stronger and stricter gun law. People who want to own guns need to do a complete and detailed background check and mental tests regularly to make sure they are able to control when to use the gun. People with mentality issue or coming from a background where family members have history of mental illness should not own a gun.

Whichever ways you choose to stop school shootings, make sure you meant it and do it from your heart. It’s not only your kids’ safety but yours as well. Be educated and think twice before doing anything!
