Providing Free/Reduced Transportation

Providing Free/Reduced Transportation

Transportation

Those affected by homelessness may not have a reliable way to connect with local companies for job interviews, or they may not be able to travel to shelters or food banks. This is where Ride United comes into play, a program that has teamed up with Lyft in order to provide the homeless/low income population with free or reduced transportation options that allow for these individuals to make it to important appointments, interviews, and food banks.

Ride United operates with a three step protocol that allows for low income/homeless individuals to get to where they need to go.  These steps include:

1. Dial 211 for assistance
2. Check for available resources
3. A ride arrives

Having a hotline that dials directly to Ride United allows for just about anybody to take advantage of this program. Once 211 is dialed, a receptionist will look through all available local transportation options to find the best fit. Once a solution is found, a Lyft driver will arrive and pick up the individual whilst still getting paid in full from Ride United and Lyft

This program allows for more jobs to be created in the ride-share/ride hailing business, while also providing meaningful transportation options to those who otherwise would not have any.

Food Delivery

Ride United also provides free or reduced food delivery, which has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on local communities. Nyela Walker from Ride United states that "more than 56,000 people in over 3,200 cities and towns have been served. And it has provided 333,000+ free and discounted rides to doctors, food banks, jobs interviews, and more." These results are staggering, allowing for those in need to get the resources they need in order to improve their situation and thrive.
