Why is it Important Not to Overlook Hiring Newly Released Inmates

Most businesses may know the benefits of hiring former inmates, but do they actually hire them? According to Out of Prison & Out of Work, 2008 data shows that former inmates are unemployed at a rate of more than 27%. This data shows that most businesses still have doubts about hiring former inmates.

Today we can change that together—if you are a business owner or hiring manager, consider hiring former inmates because:

  1.  Prior training – most inmates will more than likely have prior experiences during their time in prison. They are probably more hardworking than most others.
  2. Respect – often time they will respect and will be grateful for you hiring them and giving them a second chance.
  3.  Tax Credit – there are potential Federal tax credits at the maximum of $2,400 for employers through the Work Opportunity Tax Credit program.
Everyone can play a part in holding out their hands to help the vulnerable, even if you don’t own a business or is a hiring manager. If you encounter someone who are looking for help after being released, you can help direct them here.
