Laundry Love: The Gift of Clean Clothes 

    

Access to clean, and high quality clothing is important for families and individuals facing homelessness or to those who have little to no income. There are many benefits when it comes to clean clothing and bedding. Individuals or families can improve their physical health and hygiene, maintain a better well being, increase their chances of opportunities and be respected and valued by the community. Thanks to Laundry Love, individuals and families in need, now have a place to wash their clothes and bedding items.

Since 2003, Laundry Love has partnered with groups, schools, and local laundromats to wash clothes and bedding items to those who face little to no income or homelessness. Laundry Love is a nationwide organization that assists families and individuals with their laundry. They recognize the laundromat as a place that is inclusive, welcoming, and to make friends with one another. You are remembered by your name, and everyone is acknowledged and served. Laundry Love lives by three words, Love (is the reason), Dignity (every person is seen, valued, and honored) and Detergent (fresh and clean feels good on everyone).


Laundry Love has done 3,500,000+ loads and has served 3,000,000+ people nationwide. There are currently 310+ locations across the U.S and more to come in the future. There are several locations across Oregon, with three of them being located in Portland. The three locations in Portland are:

  1. Vermont Hills Laundromat - 4520 SW Vermont St, Portland, OR, 97219 (503) 860-1860. You may contact Diane Herschleb at diane.herschleb@gmail.com for any questions. Days: 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 2-4 pm. The last load goes in at 3pm.

  2. Woodstock Laundry- 4740 SE Woodstock Blvd., Portland, OR, 97202 (478) 731-6297. You may contact Jennifer Grant at jennifergrant@woodstockcchurch.org for any questions. Days: 10 am- 11am on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of month. 2 loads per person and max 20 people.

  3. Wash World Laundry- 16050 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97236 (971) 258-0646. You may contact Russell Wiley at laundrylovercc@gmail.com for any questions. Days: 2nd and 4th Thursday's from 6 pm- 7:45 pm.

You can simply just show up! No paper work needed, all you need to provide is your name. Free detergent is also provided. Earth Breeze has partnered up with Laundry love, with over 1,300,000+ loads of detergent has been shipped to locations nationwide and abroad.

People who make little to no income or to those who face homelessness deserve to have clean clothes and bedding. In Portland, with the high cost of living and the issue of homelessness, Laundry Love can take care of their laundry for them. One load at a time, these families and individuals have opportunities for a better life and well being!

  As homelessness starts to rise in many states, many actions have started to take place, one of them being hostile architecture.   Hostile architecture is an architectural design intended to deter certain activities and restrict people from using that public space.
