Soup Kitchens & Food Pantries -- Helping Anyone & Everyone Fight Food Insecurities

If you start a quick Google search and type in “soup kitchen near me” or “food pantries near me,” you will see that Portland has a wide variety of meal services available to anyone and everyone. There is often a misconception that food pantries and soup kitchens are only for homeless people, but in reality, they are for anyone who needs them, no questions asked. We’ll take a closer look at some of the options available to the public across the Portland metro area.

Let's start with Blanchet House -- Assisting the community since 1952, they offer three meals a day. Located in NW Portland, it is an easily accessible soup kitchen serving hot meals to anyone. Starting with breakfast at 6:30AM, lunch at 11:30AM and dinner at 5PM, they proudly state on their website that they never run out of any food. It is volunteer-run and guests can have more than serving if they wish. Vegetarian options are available, as well!

Clay Street Table -- SW Portland. Operating as both a food pantry and soup kitchen, they serve meals six days a week. The pantry is not as frequent, but is open monthly on every 4th Thursday from 1pm-3:30PM.

Clackamas Service Center -- SE 80th ST. Offering meals 4 days a week. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 1pm-2:30pm and Sunday 3pm-4pm. They also offer a wide variety of services such as to-go groceries, hot showers, diapers & hygiene products, mail services, etc. A one-stop shop for basic necessities making it easy for everyone.

William Temple House -- NW Glisan in Portland. A non profit that strives to provide food, counseling, clothing and other necessities to Portland residents.

This is not even the tip of the iceberg with everything Portland has to offer. Before I began to research the different options available to the public, I had a vague idea of the services offered. Once I started to dive a bit deeper, I was in awe at everything Portland had available. These services deserve to be known to the public, as they come with great compassion and believe in wonderful missions. As mentioned earlier, these nonprofits are often believed to be limited to people facing homelessness, but in fact, they are available to anyone and everyone.
