Food Pantries in Portland, OR Area Provide a Valuable Service to Those in Need

Food banks and food pantries can be a great resource to anyone who is vulnerable and experiencing a difficult time with food insecurity.  In Portland, OR and Multnomah County there are a number of services offered that can offer free food banks, soup kitchens, and emergency food supplies in the greater Portland area. By simply calling or coming in person to a nearby distribution center in your area you can get free meals, grocery supplies, baby formula, and access to services like Meals on Wheels that provide home deliveries in Multnomah County. Most sites, some including a free drive thru service food bank, will not only provide helpful assistance to the vulnerable population of Portland, but all of Multnomah County.  The majority of these food pantries are ran as non-profits and can be hosted or located in Community Action Agencies, Salvation Army, local churches, or any number of charitable organizations.

The Oregon Food Bank helps to administer and provide many of the valuable assistance programs offered in the Portland, OR area such as free Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. OFC locations distribute groceries and other goods to local neighborhood locations all throughout the greater Portland area and many areas of surrounding Multnomah County. Here the public can stop by to get free food, personal items, and access to assistance and food stamp applications.  Many of the locations providing food pantry services can also assist with access to clothing and household products which can also be greatly needed for vulnerable populations.  Most of these locations have a convenient location finder to help those in need easily find and access all the services that are located closest to them.

Food insecurity and having access to healthy, nutritious meals can be a serious challenge to those facing homelessness and financial hardships all throughout the Portland metro area. When dealing with such a potentially serious and pressing issue that so many are experiencing, it is important to know that there are resources and options for those who are really struggling.  These services can be used in emergency hunger situations, or just as supplemental programs to help someone temporarily get back on their feet while experiencing a real hardship. Families who have children to support are especially encouraged to take advantage of some of the programs if needed. If you are not vulnerable to food insecurity yourself, there are many ways to sign up and get involved to make a serious difference in someone's life through volunteer work, grocery shopping, deliveries, and many other opportunities to help.  Let's all help to end hunger in our community and address the serious issue of food insecurity.
