Safe Rest Villages in Portland/A New Path Towards Permanent Housing
Safe Rest Villages are an improved shelter alternative that can serve Portlanders as a stepping stone into a path towards finding stable permanent housing. All Safe Rest Villages have on-site case management and wraparound behavioral and mental health services. Although this model is relatively new to Portland, similar models have succeeded in other cities. They are not unmanaged tent or vehicle camping, quite the opposite. They are meant to address unmanaged camping.
Entry is by referral fo adults (18+). Partners and pets are allowed at all Villages. Referrals will be made by the Street Services Coordination Center, Portland fire & Rescue, and Portland Street Response, among other social service providers engaging with those living outside through a referral program managed by the Joint Office of Houseless Services.
