Factors that age us and how to fight them!

Getting older is something we cannot control, as the birthdays add up, changes happen to our bodies we are not always excited about. However, we do have the power to change our lifestyles in a matter that makes the process of aging easier on us so we can look and feel young and refreshed even when you are hanging out at your grandchild’s college graduation! Here are a few factors that contribute to aging that can be altered to extend life longevity and improve your health as well as physical appearance to make one look and feel younger:

-Mental health and stress:
Depression can lead to faster aging. Psychiatrists have revealed how people who have their depression under control can sometimes look younger and have less wrinkles. Stress also has a huge factor in aging. Cortisol levels are directly correlated with the aging of skin as well as contribute to cardiovascular issues. So don’t forget to treat yourself to a relaxing day at the spa or at the park every now and then!

-Smoking:
This is a no brainer and most are aware of the fact that other than being terrible for your general health, smoking also ages people. Did you know that quitting by the age of 35 can often extend life longevity by 8 years? It also is a huge contributor to early skin aging and wrinkles.

-Lack of sleep:
Not sleeping enough is also a factor that is bad for your health, and also bad for your skin. Not sleeping enough makes bags and lines appear around your eyes that can sometimes become permanent. Sleep is also important to help with mental health and stress, which as mentioned earlier, also plays a huge factor in aging.

-Poor nutrition:
Most people are aware that junk food is not healthy to eat regularly, but did you know that unhealthy sugars and junk food also speeds up the aging process? Sticking to a healthy and balanced diet with fruits and vegetables included will help you feel healthier and look younger.

-Weight management:
This is more complex than just nutrition; this is referring to the importance of maintaining weight. Yoyo dieting and crash diets can do harm to your health and it has been discovered that a large majority of people who do them often gain the weight back and sometimes more. The best option is to eat healthy and maintain an exercise routine of approximately 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week.

-Sun exposure:
Too much sun contributes to early aging of the skin, wrinkles and age spots. It is important to always protect yourself from the sun with lotion not only for the sake of aging, but also to protect yourself from skin cancer.
