Discrimination - What Can We Do To Stop It?

Immigrants and people from different races are facing discrimination every day. Discrimination has always been one of the most problematic issue in the US. It’s said to see how much we try to fix it but it never stops. So, what can we do to protect people as well as making America great again?

First off, immigrants sacrifice a lot of things back home just because they want a better life in America. They leave their family, their friends and their hometown to come here with their American dream that they will have a good life in the U.S. However, the reality is not what they’re looking for. For immigrants, they have to work harder than American because if they don’t they will loose their job, and it’s not always easy for them to get one. Some of them have difficulty speaking English although they are qualified for the job, so they end up working at retails stores or do labor work where they get paid minimum wages or even lower. Just recently, a Vietnamese man who applied for a job was discriminated for not speaking English. This incident happened in Seattle and his daughter tweeted about it on her Twitter. It is not the first time that this type of discrimination happens in the US. In fact, it happens every day: in the shopping mall, at work, restaurant, etc.,.

It is hard to stop discrimination overnight because it is someone perspective or mindset about something or someone else. Plus, America is a free country and people have rights to express themselves; therefore it’s even harder to stop it. However, we can educate people, especially our children because they’re our next generations. Give your children chances and opportunities to explore the world. Advise and correct them when they say bad stuffs about other people. Be a role model for them to watch and learn. As for those who are the victims of discrimination, don’t keep it as a secret. Tell your stories or experiences and how you cope with that. Be the voice for other people! For other people, if you come across or witness any discrimination, report it right away. It is time that they need to know that when they discriminate somebody, they will get into trouble as well. Also, it is time that we treat everyone equally for who they are not their appearance. Remember, you are the one who can end this!
